old library, dorking
mixed use refurbishment
Martindales were involved in the refurbishment of the Old Library in Dorking into a mixed use development of ground floor retail, and 16 affordable flats above.

It is understood that this building was originally constructed in 1871 by a private company for use as a place of public assembly but has lay empty since 1998. The conversion works will see two new floors added within the original structure while maintaining the original highly-detailed external brickwork walls. At third floor level the bottom chords of the original timber trusses have been left exposed as a feature of the original structure.

glassworks gym, cambridge
warehouse conversion
The Glassworks Gym was created from an original bonded warehouse on the banks of the River Cam. The building was built in the 1860s with a narrow frontage to the river and to Thompson’s Lane.

The conversion work provided a fully-functional gym and health club including a multi-gym, dance/activity studio, spa (with pool overlooking the River Cam), treatment rooms, offices, changing rooms and a bar/restaurant which also looks out over the river. The development of the design was generated in close collaboration with Conran Design who were employed by the client as interior designers.
